The impact of July 20th’s litigation will be felt all throughout the Basin. And with the possible widespread impacts to families, communities, economies and the environment, several briefs of amicus curiae (friend of the court briefs) have been filed in support of the the Bureau of Reclamation, the Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Marine Fisheries Service as well as their supporters and intervenors.
Though all legalese, we strongly recommend everyone to spend some time reading through these briefs. From them, you will learn the impacts to Klamath, Modoc and Siskiyou Counties. You will also learn whether or not the science behind the lawsuit makes sense as well as the impact to another tribe, the Modocs.
Since this is a lawsuit, there is nothing we as citizens can do except for educating ourselves. Reading and understanding the arguments being made is a step in that direction.
